AB - According to Shuo Wen Jie Zi, the Construction Motivation of the Chinese character “” is the image of “the sun is just rising to the height of the middle of trees”. However, some scholars specializing on Chinese characters do not accept this interpretation. Based on the research method of Cultural Anthropology, by comparing the etymological meaning of the word “east” of various languages in the world, it is proposed that the etymological meaning of the Chinese character “” is “the direction in which the sun rises”; and the Construction Motivation of “” is the image of “the sun is just rising to the height of the middle of trees”.
