AB - This study examines the transformations that the emergence of Generative AI has brought to the Chinese poetry field and argues that poetic creation is entering a stage of human–AI collaborative creation (co-creative creation). To this end, the study investigates poetry-generation systems such as Microsoft’s Xiaoice and DeepSeek, analyzing how AI has influenced the production of poetic language, imagery, and form. It further explores how these technological developments are reshaping the structures of literary production, criticism, and reception. The findings show that AI functions not only as a tool assisting creative writing but also as a medium that enhances poetic reception through voice recitation, image- and video-based appreciation, and automated criticism, thereby supporting readers’ interpretive and aesthetic experiences.
These developments raise new questions regarding established literary concepts such as originality, artistic subjectivity, and the attribution of copyright. However, the literary field in the era of generative AI should not be understood as a process in which AI replaces human creativity. Rather, it should be viewed as a process of co-evolution between technological systems and human creativity. In this sense, AI does not signify the end of human authorship; instead, it is increasingly emerging as a collaborative partner that expands the possibilities of poetic imagination and expression. Through this analysis, the study seeks to illuminate the evolving ecology of poetic creation in the age of generative AI.
