AB - Since the 1970s, Zang Kejia entered the most productive period of his classical-style poetry writing. This phenomenon was closely related to the influence of the tradition of classical poetry composition among revolutionary figures, his deep attachment to traditional poetry formed in childhood, and his experiences in the “May Seventh Cadre School” (Wuqi Ganxiao). Zang Kejia’s classical-style poetry encompasses a wide range of themes and subject matters. It includes sincere expressions of friendship and vivid records of laboring life, as well as occasional poems inspired by objects and imbued with personal sentiments, alongside works that engage with social realities and comment on contemporary affairs.
Together, these diverse themes construct a rich and distinctive spiritual world. Poems on friendship embody a resilient and tenacious will to life; poems on labor reflect a steadfast revolutionary commitment; occasional and dedicatory poems convey profound cultural ideals; and poems on current affairs demonstrate a strong sense of national responsibility. By integrating personal life experiences, perceptions of the times, and value pursuits into a unified artistic whole, Zang Kejia’s classical-style poetry not only continues the realist tradition but also reveals distinctive ideological connotations and artistic value.
