ABSTRACT

This article is to reflect upon the economic movements Christians of Korea under Japanese colonial rule, and is to look at the tasks of the church of Korea in terms of Public theology. Under Japanese colonial rule, Koreans were experiencing the economic distress in the exploitation of the Japanese Government-General of Korea. In this situation, the Christians in Seoul and Pyongyang had developed a large number of economic movements for the construction of National Capitalist Economy on the basis of Silryeokyangseongron. They were especially carried out the public responsibility of the church based on the Protestant Puritan ethics. Therefore, the article is to evaluate the economic movements Christians of Korea under Japanese colonial rule in terms of Public theology. And then, through this evaluation, this article researches for what is the public responsibility of the church for people suffering under Today’s Neo-liberal Economic Order. For these purposes, At First, it historically deals with the economic movements of Christians of Korea under Japanese colonial rule. Secondly, it theologically deals with a question that how does the Christian had performed the public responsibility in the area of the economy. Thirdly, It deals with a question what is the Neo-liberal Economic Order and what is the society of Korea influenced by it. Finally, it deals with the tasks of the church of Korea under the Neo-liberal Economic Order in terms of Public Theology.
