This paper examines the relationship between politics and religion within Korean society and Christianity. Following the 3 December 2024 martial law incident, the majority of citizens expected a return to stability as the judicial process unfolded. However, as time passed, the nature of the incident changed, and riots broke out among another segment of society. These riots were linked to violent protests and religious gatherings. Additionally, evidence emerged suggesting the involvement of Korean Protestantism in violent political acts. This study focuses on Protestant political activities, particularly the recently prominent Protestant conservatism and Protestant far-right movements, to examine their activities, characteristics, and interrelationships. Through this, we sought to identify the characteristics of the forms and contents of violent events, their similarities with other violent incidents, and their ultimate significance. This was examined in three stages. First, we captured the phenomenon, described the event itself in a state of suspension of judgement, and sought its meaning. Second, we analyzed the situation by comparing it with other cases to explore the meaning of the captured phenomenon. Third, we examined the analyzed events within the framework of the Protestant group’s identity to explore their origins and essence, while identifying their current position to target their direction. It was confirmed that these events do not align with either the social maintenance function or the prophetic reform function of religion. This indicates that the realm of religion, which is based on trust, is disappearing.
