ABSTRACT

Human approach and attitude toward the world can change depending on how we understand the relationship between God and the world. Moreover, understanding the relationship among the created beings of the world, especially the relationship between human beings and other creatures, is an essential factor in determining ecological approaches and attitudes. This research intends to explore the discourse of modern ecological theology, with particular attention to God, the relationship between God and the world, and the relationship among the created beings in the world. Based on this investigation, this paper will typify modern ecological theology into a panentheistic type, a post-panentheistic type, and a theocentric-stewardship type, comparing and evaluating them. The theologians representing the panentheistic type are Sallie McFague and Jürgen Moltmann, those for the post-panentheistic type Jay B. McDaniel and Rosemary R. Ruether, and those for the theocentric-stewardship type Glen H. Stassen and David P. Gushee. I would like to conclude this paper by making ethical proposals that imply normative directions for the maturation of ecological practice.
