ABSTRACT

This study does not simply consider Pastor Moon Ik-hwan’s unification narrative as a topic of discussion in the 1980s and 1990s or as a story about unification that has already passed, but evaluates it as a living narrative within the K-community referred to as the Korean people, Korea, or Korea, and examines the influence of this narrative from a Christian social ethics perspective. Moon Ik-hwan’s diverse and rich literacy contains a unification narrative that the Korean community should share. This study examines how he changed from a Christian anti-communist intellectual to a democratic unification activist through his various forms of literacy. Through the narrative changes before and after 1950 and after Jang Jun-ha’s death, this study analyzes that in his ideological transformation, the discourse on democracy and unification could not help but become a discourse of the entire Korean people, not just a discourse of the Christian community. The unification narrative in the late spring letter is reinterpreted through a Christian social ethics (narrative ethics) method and remains a topic that must be pursued even in a post-division situation.
