This study includes a series of processes that include designing a teaching model to complete self-introduction writing using ChatGPT, introducing it into actual classes, and then proceeding to closely analyze the results. The design model targets 40 learners who took the common general education course <Writing> in the 2023 summer semester, and consists of 1 week - 50 minutes - 2 sessions.
Among various writing activities, ‘self-introduction’ is a genre suitable for writing a first draft using generative AI technology as a guide, and is a type of writing where individual feedback is important. Therefore, it was judged that AI's quick answers and help could have a great effect.
After learning according to the designed teaching model, learners completed and submitted an activity sheet detailing the process of using ChatGPT. Through this, we were able to take a closer look at the order and method of using ChatGPT. In addition, through a survey conducted after the class ended, we were able to examine learners' various thoughts and perceptions regarding ChatGPT.
Although generative AI has a wide range of applications, it is expected to be widely used within universities for reports, assignments, and theses.
When viewed broadly, this is all related to writing. As <Writing> is a common required general education for freshmen, I believe it is an appropriate subject to systematically teach and train about the legitimate use and ethical citation of generative AI. Therefore, I believe that an educational course that teaches students how to access information using generative AI, accepts it ethically, and then cites it according to norms should be introduced into the <Writing> subject.
