ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to construct the directions, principles, and design models of <reading and communication> subjects as basic liberal arts education. In order to do this, I examined how universities operate speaking curriculum as basic liberal arts education, and then designed and presented <reading and communication> curriculum in the following direction. First of all, it was based on a unified structure combining reading, speaking, listening, and writing that can enlarge the thinking through the activities of discourse among the academic communities, while building background knowledge while reading various texts. Second, the recent texts (2000~2017) in various areas were selected as the texts to be read in consideration of the learners' interest, generational characteristics, intellectual level, and living environment. The third step is approaching step by step, and it reflects them faithfully to construct a textbook (Interest-inducing phase: Tapping-Understanding phase: Looking-Expansion phase 1: Opening idea-Expansion phase 2:- Expansion phase 3: Overlapping-Deepening and organizing phase: book review, column writing) and focused on inducing interest in reading and thinking by providing various problems in detail. For the fourth time, I tried to realize a step-by-step and systematic communication education by obligating me to perform two writing tasks (review, column) for one semester and receiving feedback.
