ABSTRACT

This paper aims to present how to use the survey research method in the academic writing classes for foreign university students. Students should submit a ‘terminal essay’ based on the ‘theory of academic writing’ learned in class. According to the results of a basic survey, most of the students had taken a TOPIK test, and it was expected that if ‘TOPIK no.53 writing question’ would be presented in linkage with ‘survey research methods’, students could more easily approach the methods. Based on this hypothesis, a stage to infer the questions and answers from the example of question no.53 was set. Thereafter, theoretical and practical classes for 'Survey Research Methods' were taught, and personal interviews were conducted to apply the 'Survey Research Methods' to the 'terminal essay'. Finally, the titles of the ‘terminal essays’ finally submitted by students were summarized and presented. Based on the foregoing, a plan for using ‘survey research methods’ in foreign university students’ academic writing was presented. It is expected that the plan can be used to supplement shortcomings to design more sophisticated instructional models.
