ABSTRACT

This paper aims to introduce the encounter of science liberal education and on-line writing feedback at Sookmyung Women's University in 2020 and to suggest some implications from lecture evaluations. While other universities has developed <Writing on Science and Technology> courses for writing education according to academic track and the accreditation for engineering education since the early 2000s, Sookmyung Women's University has two specific backgrounds for this encounter. Firstly, the science liberal course, <Science, Technology and Modern Society> has dealt with the history and social, moral, ethical issues of science and technology in modern society for improving critical thinking on science/technology, and additional courses have been installed until now. Secondly, the General Education Research Institute of Sookmyung Women's University initiated the project for innovation of liberal education in 2019, and this project promoted the development of on-line writing feedback system. In 2020, students at this course, after lectures dealing with some issues on biomedicine, had to submit review paper about a documentary on genetic diagnosis and personal, social questions to on-line writing feedback system. Four experts on writing teaching read students' papers and made comments on expressions, structures, contents of papers via on-line feedback system, and students had to submit their revised paper to professor of this course. For improving critical thinking as well as the ability to write on science and technology, the aims and targets, curriculum contents and subject of education have to be pondered on, and new experiment to integrate science liberal education with writing teaching at Sookmyung Women's University suggest some implications on science and technology writing educations which have been promoted at many domestic university about two decades.
