ABSTRACT

This paper discusses an overall operation process of Dongguk University's writing education and suggests new strategies and directions for teaching writing. The operation process of writing education at Dongguk University can be classified into three main periods. In the first period Dongguk University played a leading role in writing education with awareness of its expertise. In the second period various methods were tried through the expansion of the field of writing education and customized education for learners. In the third period Dharma College was established and it concentrated on genre writing with the start of the College. A professional and systematic writing system was also developed during this period. Lastly, this paper discusses new strategies such as ‘development of digital topic map writing materials’, ‘writing education for various literacy’ and ‘teaching and learning method of a new smart writing for learners’. This paper also suggests ‘development of new writing subjects that fit the learners' needs’, ‘methods to activate the linkage between required and non-required courses’, and ‘need to re-aware the philosophy and importance of writing subjects’.
