ABSTRACT

Artificial intelligence technologies are already being utilized in a variety of fields, and their impact is expected to grow in the coming years. The key technologies behind this transformation include artificial intelligence (AI), big data, cloud computing, IoT, mobile devices, and automation, with AI playing a central role in areas such as automation, big data analytics, and risk management. Globally, many countries are focusing on developing AI competencies through systematic education, and this trend has led to the emergence of AI literacy education, which is essential for understanding, evaluating, and utilizing AI effectively. In particular, the emergence of generative AI technologies such as ChatGPT has further emphasized the need for education that addresses the benefits, risks, and ethical implications of AI. In this context, universities that need to balance professional education with liberal arts education are increasingly offering liberal arts education on AI. In addition, liberal arts education is characterized by the fact that students from different majors take classes together, and utilizing this feature through PBL (Problem-Based Learning) can help students in various ways (experience interdisciplinary cooperation, improve communication skills, develop creative problem-solving skills, acquire practical knowledge, and strengthen self-directed learning capabilities). The case of Hanyang University's 'Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence' course can be said to be an example of the educational value and utility of AI literacy classes as a liberal arts course using PBL.
