AB - This study aims to propose educational content for university-level classical Chinese (Hanja) liberal arts education by utilizing classical texts such as The Analects, The Doctrine of the Mean, The Book of Songs, The Book of Rites, and Zhuangzi, while taking into account the characteristics and orientations of Generation Z.
The content is organized by categorizing the orientations and major concerns of Generation Z into four domains: the past (reasons for entering university), the present (focus on one’s own life), the future (goal achievement and social interaction), and interests (love songs and appearance-oriented values).
Classical Chinese texts contain profound philosophical insights and the accumulated history of humanity. This study expects that presenting the content of classical Chinese in the form of educational media suitable for contemporary learners will help alleviate the prejudice and sense of boredom that Generation Z often holds toward classical Chinese, and will contribute to conveying the essential value of classical Chinese as a component of liberal arts education.
