AB - Mystery muhyeop is an epic in the form of a combination of reasoning and muhyeop. It is known for its genre that began with Chinese writer Gu long. He built his own territory by mixing reasoning elements with existing muhyeop novels. Domestic Mystery muhyeop works include 『Hell's Yeongga』 and 『Gugihwa』. In this study, we would like to discuss Mystery muhyeop, a form of convergence of reasoning and muhyeop, by analyzing the Gu long's 『choryuhyang』, 『Hell's Yeongga』, and 『Gugihwa』.
Although Gu long's Choryuhyang has similar abilities such as Lupin and Sherlock Holmes and shows reasoning elements in solving Gangho's case, there is a limitation that the process of identifying criminals based on observation and reasoning power is not as prominent as mystery novels. 『Hell's Yeongga』 aimed for a mystery narrative in which the protagonist who lost his memory sought his identity, but it has limitations as a Mystery muhyeop as it shows imbalance in setting and errors in using the escalating system. However, it is significant that it has a hard-boiled character in terms of excessive violence, the introduction of sensational scenes, and the appearance of femme fatale characters. 『Gugihwa』 reveals the reasoning element in that it solves the presented problem with logical judgment, and shows the convergence of mystery and muhyeop novels in that it emphasizes the spirit of "Hyeob," the essence of muhyeop novels. However, it is a work that is regrettable due to the part that violates the basic composition of mystery novels and excessive setting.
Mystery muhyeop is a new attempt to transform the genre of muhyeop novels, and it is far from authentic mystery novels, and when looking at various elements, it can be said that it corresponds to hard-boiled, a subgenre of mystery novels. It is significant in that it attempted to converge between the most popular genres of reasoning and muhyeop. In Korea, the Mystery muhyeop did not achieve genre development, and there is a regret that it only showed its traces in several works.
