ABSTRACT

Under this study, the narration principle of motherhood that overcomes from the tragic reality with the subject of ‘Toji(土地)’ of Park Kyung-ri has been analyzed. Toji(土 地) displays the human images distorted and deformed under the barbaric scenery of modern times under the background of time from 1897 to 1945 and materialize the order that should be available within the foregoing with the narration in returning and restoration. First of all, ‘Toji(土地)’ begins from the description of Odyssey of Seohee and Gilsang. Odyssey of Seohee is focused on the matters to recover the Choi clan and it is continued to the second part of the novel. However, even at the time to complete this matter, the narration ‘Toji(土地)’ deepens the implication of ‘land’ as it progresses from the personal resentment to the national is yet to be completed, and rather, it is expanded to the process to search the tragic colonial reality with Gilsang as a medium. Based on the foregoing, the narration of tragedy. ‘Toji(土地)’ is restructured with the narration to keep the human life to keep under the reality of absence of motherhood that is painted as ‘searching for mother’. Under this process, numerous orphans without their foundation of living as well as their fragmented reality would march toward the generalized human and world in healing through the point of view for life caring found in motherhood.
