ABSTRACT

This thesis tried to extract the fatherly consciousness and the father's image based on Yun Jeung's family crest. Yun Seongeu and his son Yun Jeung wrote a lot of letters to their sons. Also Yun Jeung and his grandson wrote a lot about their father's lives. The members of Yun Jeung's family crest expressed a strong sense of fatherly consciousness in process of forming particular political position and transferring family tradition and academic tradition. From daily life to academic studies, they served as their son's strict teachers and they also remembered their fathers as a strict teacher and an exemplary human being. The father's voice revealed in the letters and the image of the fathers pictured in their memories were symmetrical. This means that the certain fatherly consciousness was executed regularly, and the constant father figures were converted into the fatherly consciousness. This contrasts with that many literary letters written to one's child show friendly father's voice in variety in the late Joseon Dynasty. Yun Jeung's family tried to consciously hold onto the perfect father as a model of the nobility.
