Yang Heon-Su's Leadership During the period of Byungin Yangyo(the War between Choseon and France) : Focused on the Mumford's Skills Model

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is analysing leadership of Yang Heon-Su who was commander in chief of Soon-moo-young during the period of French invasion of 1866. To achieve this purpose, this thesis examine Yang’s behavior by Mumford's leadership theory named skills model. Skills model suppose circumstances of organization could be easily stricken in the complex problems. Leaders confront ill-defined problems with no certain informations. And they solve these complicated problems in “real world”: time is limited and demands are many. To overcome this situations, skills model propose three type leadership skills: problem-solving skill, social judgment skills and knowledge. Thesis will check Commander Yang’s situations with Mumford’s theory. He was in the complex problems like theory indicated. There is no information about french troops. Government let him use his discretion without a guidance. After check this situation, thesis will find out how he can solve that complex problems; win the battle against french invaders who well-trained and armed with modernized weapons but his troops wasn’t.
