ABSTRACT

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia has perceived its strategic stability to be undermined by NATO's continued eastward expansion and the U.S. policy of deploying MDs in Europe. In addition, the collapse of the bipolar system, the proliferation of localized wars around the world, and the frequency of non-traditional threats such as civil wars and international terrorism have increased the need for Russia to be prepared with military method for crises in the region. As the means and methods of warfare have changed with the development of science and technology, a new generation of warfare has emerged, and Russia needed to prepare for future warfare. Along with the 2008 military reforms, Russia strengthened its nuclear capabilities and developed weapons capable of neutralizing U.S. MD. It also sought to develop combat efficiency and mobility by improving the command structure of the armed forces, forming a battalion tactical group, and modernizing weapon systems through the State Armament Program. To respond to future warfare, an integrated tactical network command system is being built to achieve information superiority.
