AB - The starting point of philosophy is our reality and life which are full of problems. To announce the availability of philosophy to the public and the non-philosophical professionals we need to reveal the various philosophical topics contained in our real problems. Until now, environmental issues and philosophical discussions about environmental problems being reduced to a matter of social science and environmental engineering frequently tend to be excluded. However, the deep analysis of environmental conflict problems makes us see that it is in contact with the problems of philosophy. Environmental conflict problems contain the facts and values, the dignity of humans and other life, the utility and distributive justice, the rights and obligations of current and future generations. The cause of such conflict lie mostly in facts, interests, social structure, often derived from differences in human relationships, values and identity. So in environmental conflicts there are many philosophical question to be addressed in ontology, epistemology, value theory, the legal philosophy, political philosophy and economic philosophy. Therefore, to analyze the essential causes of environmental conflict from different perspectives and to seek an alternative view meet with philosophical issues. This study analyzes the causes of environmental conflicts of the naval base in Gangjeong village, and reveals the philosophical meaning that they imply. Philosophical discussions about environmental problems are required to prevent or mitigate environmental conflicts; but they are also, as a training ground of philosophy education, quite fruitful. Discussions about various philosophical topics associated with the environmental conflicts will give us an opportunity to vitalize the stagnant philosophy and also to solve the complex environmental problems at the same time.
