ABSTRACT

Analyzing Lun-Yu[論語]’s verbal expression, Confucius[孔子] explained the Way[道] in several different ways. It is common to focus on clear and concrete expressions, but this article focuses on the opposite. That is why you can get closer to Confucius’ the Way. Confucius held up remarks or kept silent about things that were hard to prove, but could not be sure of. The reason for this is that it is difficult to say that there is inevitability between the inspiration by aesthetic experience and the moral self-fulfillment, and that it is because it is difficult to take the form of normative statements due to individual differences. Nevertheless, Confucius notes its educational function and effect. It is the method and purpose of this study to analyze the linguistic expression to further refine the transcendental problems that Confucius was silent about. In order to understand the Way’s character in a comprehensive and holistic way while acknowledging normality and naturalness, rationality and symbolism at the same time, we must transcend the concept definition. Rather, we should pay attention to the dimension beyond that. It is, indeed, important to harmonize the two dimensions. This can be solved by strengthening and exerting aesthetic emotional capabilities. This capacity makes it possible to comply with customary norms and obligations voluntarily and positively. And solemn normism leads to the realization of the free movement of the common good. Of course, a scientific explanation of the relationship can provide a more persuasive solution. But this is left as an assignment.
