AB - The purpose of this research is to examine the effects that intercultural sensitivity, as a parameter, has on the level of satisfaction in marriages, under the hypothesis that the degree of affection expressed by husbands towards their wives in multicultural families in Korea has certain effects on the level of satisfaction of those marriages. The triple mediating effects analysis method of Baron & Kenny (1986) was used for verification of the hypothesis of this research, and the results and implications of this analysis results are as follows. First, affirmative affection between married couples imparted effects on affirmative intercultural sensitivity, while negative affection between married couples imparted effects on exclusive intercultural sensitivity, thereby leading to adoption of hypothesis 1. Therefore, from the perspective of ensuring equality, in order to establish affirmative affection between married couples, Korean husbands should alter their cognition in order to be more considerate of their international wives. Second, with affirmative affection between the married couple imparting greater effects on marriage satisfaction levels than negative affection, hypothesis 2 was also adopted. Therefore, Korean husbands need to understand the cultural characteristics, and accommodate the diversified conditions, of alien wives from the perspective of affirmative affection between married couples. Third, with the demonstration that intercultural sensitivity plays the role of a medium for effects of affection between married couples on marriage satisfaction levels, hypothesis 3 was also adopted. However, intercultural sensitivity has a partial mediating effect on affirmative affection between married couples and a complete mediating effect on negative affection. This proved that intercultural sensitivity plays the role of a medium on both the affirmative and negative affection that the Korean husband shows towards the alien wife, although the intensity of its role differs. Therefore, Korean husbands need to make efforts to establish affirmative affection within their multicultural marriages, and equip themselves with intercultural sensitivity.
