ABSTRACT

This paper argues for the necessity for the indices of humanities that are, unlike the many traditional indices developed in social sciences, conceptualized to represent the ever-changing dynamics of family and community. While the concept of family based on consanguinity has long been accepted as the axis of the social integrity and cultural order, the myth of “normal” family has also been obsolete and, accordingly, a new concept that can express and capture the ongoing change in family and community relations has been called for. This paper suggests that the philosophical and discursive indices be designed to invigorate the constitutional movements of various family and community forms.
