AB - The main purpose of this article is to establish the concept of the military cultural city created by various factors of cities after the Korean War and to analyze a city that meets the conditions for its establishment, in order to examine the cultural value of a city’s placeness. In Korea, as Military units began to be stationed in the ruins after Korean War, military culture began to form in cities. This developed into a military culture and became the identity of the city. However, the movement of local governments to change the image of a military city through relocation projects of the military and US military bases became active. The disappearance of the military culture, which was a cultural feature of the city is the possibility of some sort of non-geographic location appears. Wonju, Gangwon-do, is a representative city that begins to develop into a new cultural city while losing the meaning of the placeness. Therefore, in order to examine the value of military culture that played a decisive role in the establishment of urban identity in Wonju, based on Edward Relph's theory of placeness, we intend to use John Anderson's cultural and geographic approach as a research method. It will be possible to grasp the cultural value of the military cultural city by analyzing the formation of the military cultural city and the experiences of local residents. Therefore, first, to establish the concept of a military cultural city understood as a complex term, the concept of three words was analyzed, and the establishment conditions of the military cultural city were derived based on the theory related to space, place, and place, want to analyze the cultural value of Wonju, a military cultural city.
