ABSTRACT

Since the outbreak and global spread of COVID-19 in 2020, changes have happened across all areas of mankind with overall changes beginning in the realm of culture and art. One of culture and art facilities, museums are also undergoing changes to their roles and functions according to the flow of the changes. A major function of museums, in particular, exhibition needs a lot of changes, as well. This reality is difficult to overcome only with the old exhibition management plans. This study examined the characteristics and types of exhibition at museums briefly and focused on analyzing the cases of exhibition management at total four national and public museums including two national and public museums each in the Seoul metropolitan region since the outbreak of COVID-19. The study is significant in that it examined the current states of national and public museums and their responses to a global risk factor called COVID-19 through this analysis. The case study results will offer basic data and a chance for museums to move in a better direction for the management of exhibition as one of their major functions.
