ABSTRACT

V is to understand as an intermediate being between theater and film in the new media theory of André Bazin on the micro-level. It is theatrical in that the viewer can see hic et nunc the actor, but cinematic in that the actor have no sight of the viewer. The competence of intimacy that the mise-en-scène of TV posesses is ubiquitous as a phenomenological existence, but simultaneously bears corresponding moral responsibility. On the macro-level, TV is ontologically to understand as a medial extension of the idea of Total Cinema that Bazin envisions. Film and TV continue to evolve in the dialectics of wide screen and small screen. In the mise-en-scène of Bazin, post-medium and post-media can reach an organical synthesis. In this process, TV can play a useful dialectical counterpart for the cinema.
