ABSTRACT

This paper examines the use of the color red in Pedro Almodóvar’s film <The Human Voice> and its pivotal role in conveying the protagonist’s psychological transformations and advancing the narrative. The study highlights how red not only enhances the emotional amplitude but also significantly contributes to the thematic exposition of the film. It explores the various emotional stages of fear, resolution, anger, aggression, dissolution, and sublimation represented by the color red, showcasing how these emotions are visually articulated through color usage. This paper reveals that color in Almodóvar’s work transcends mere aesthetic elements, providing psychological depth and thematic complexity, and emphasizing themes such as female independence and empowerment. This analysis affirms the strategic importance of color in film production and theory, offering a deeper understanding of cinematic color use and its impact on narrative and viewer engagement.
