ABSTRACT

This paper aims to examine the situation in which life and women were valued in ancient China through Taiping Jing, and to find ways to overcome the crises that nature, the environment, and humanity face. It is noteworthy that Taiping Jing emphasizes the harmony of heaven, earth, and man, while also emphasizing the importance of earth. Taiping Jing emphasizes the spirit of harmony and unity, and its emphasis on life, especially that of women and females, is influenced by Taoist philosophy, which emphasizes yin. The earth is identified with women, mothers, and life. The earth was considered the Mother Earth, conceiving and giving birth to life. For this reason, Taiping Jing warned against indiscriminate digging or civil engineering. What makes Taiping Jing special in its emphasis on life is its insistence on protecting women, who were despised within the class structure of feudal society. Rather than simply valuing women’s bodies as a means of procreation, it emphasized the preciousness of women themselves as precious lives. Taiping Jing, emphasizing the spirit of harmony and unity, and the philosophy of life, holds significance in that it provides a positive force for overcoming the problems of modern society, which disregards life and destroys the environment.
