ABSTRACT

This text aims to supplement the analysis of success factors for Chinese unicorn companies. Since China has distinct characteristics of a high-context culture and a socialist country, even unicorn companies should interpret the success factors by considering the role and weight of each factor in their relationship with the government. Therefore, the text urges the analysis of the university factor, especially the prestigious university factor, among the success factors of unicorn companies from a new perspective that reflects the characteristics of China. The text reorganized the meaning of prestigious universities based on literature on the development history of Chinese universities and government policies related to the development of science and technology. In other words, the factors of prestigious universities in China are not independent factors, but act as key factors in connecting and mobilizing various social resources that cannot be dismissed as individual human resources. Another introduced the background of how the factors of prestigious universities lowered the threshold and closely connected alumni when looking for partners in the process of technology development for startups or investment partners for growth with unicorns. And we examined in detail through the case of prestigious universities where entrepreneurship incubation is active. Of course, the proportion of human and social resources varies from university to university, but what is clear is that the factor of the prestigious university was a factor that complexly influenced the growth of unicorn companies. Therefore, future related research should first examine and explain how the university affected the human and social resources of the founder in detail.
