ABSTRACT

The global economy is now characterized by the 'US-China technology hegemony dispute' in the 'transition period towards a new steady-sate equilibrium’. This implies that economic impacts through technology diffusion and supply chain are more crucial than the traditional impacts of trade liberalization when we analyze the economic effects of Korea-japan FTA. Considering this, we construct an endogenous technology-diffusion GVC model after modifying the GTAP standard model to analyze the technology diffusion scenario as well as the trade liberalization scenario of the Korea-Japan FTA. First, the trade liberalization scenario of the Korea-Japan FTA is estimated. Second, The positive long-run effect of technology diffusion on the other country are found when exogenous technological change in Korea or Japan is hypothetically assumed. Third, during the transition period of the global economy, we intend to think the cooperative strategy between the two countries as a means to mitigate the risks posed by unfair trade practices of China or the United States.
