ABSTRACT

Geographical distribution of agglomerated marketplaces in the city and the factors affecting them have been attracting attention lately. In the present study, we estimated geographic dimensions of the agglomerated marketplace on April 2016, October 2016, and April 2017, and interpreted the spatial pattern occurred in the area located neighboring Hongik University (Hongdae). To detect a spatial range of the agglomerated marketplace, we used pedestrian flow data and the restaurant business status data. As a result of the analysis based on the pedestrian flow data, it was confirmed that the spatial extent of Hongdae agglomerated marketplace gradually expanded, especially to the northward and southward directions. Similar spatial changes were detected in the restaurant data, but the amount of change was slightly smaller. The Hongdae area, the Shinchon Yidae street, and the Manglidan street have formed discrete agglomerated area without showing their connectivity. Overall, the spatial changes of Hongdae agglomerated marketplace were confirmed to be extended beyond the existing spatial range, which was saturated, to the residential area where rent fees are relatively cheaper.
