ABSTRACT

The layered organic-inorganic hybrid compounds (C6H5CH2NH3)2CuCl4 and (NH3C6H4C2H4C6H4NH3)CuCl4 have been directly synthesized. From the X-ray diffraction data and the organic guest size, the orientation of the intercalated organic amine was determined. The inorganic sheets consist of CuCl42- layers of corner-sharing octahedra copper chloride. The protonated organic amine was intercalated into the CuCl42- layers with bilayer structure for (C6H5CH2NH3)2CuCl4 and monolayer structure for (NH3C6H4C2H4C6H4NH3)CuCl4.
