ABSTRACT

This treatise aims at emdying Zhong-Jing(仲景)'s spirits in today's oriental medicine by studying Zhong-ing's recipe of 『Shang Han Lun(傷寒論)』, so contemplates how Zhong-Jing's recipes of 「Shang Han Lun」prepare and utilize the medicines to uplift the efficiency in curing of illness. The following is the conclusion. 1 . According to principles of preparing the recipe of Zhong-Jing, it has the principle of manarch, minister, assistant and guide in common with 『HuangDi nei jing(黃帝內經)』. It shows that preparing recipe by the principle of manarch, minister, assistant, and guide have a great influence on the efficacy and operation's direction of recipe and the change of efficacy among separate medicines. 2. To have a efficient operation of recipe, Zhong-Jing discriminate the pharmaceutical preparation, the way of pharmacy, dose, the way of taking medicine according to the energy of illness, which adopts a form of seven kinds of prescription(七方) which are large prescription, small prescription, prescription with insidious effect, prescription with prompt effect, prescription composed of medicines in odd number, prescription composed of medicines in even number, complex prescription. And then large, small, odd number, even number is chosen by far and near of illness's location or the strong and the weak of illness. Insidious effect, prompt effect is chosen by high and low speed of energe of illness. In case of complex prescription, repetition of complex prescription is used in curing additional illness at the same time, or curing abreast of diagnosing incapable of apparent diagnosis, and duplication of complex prescription is used in having superficies syndrome and interior syndrome at the same time in sequence of change. 3. Zhong-Jing selected the medicinal herbs and made them compatible in the prescription according to the condition of illness so that they could exert themselves on healing. This brought out ten kinds of prescription. In this way He strictly classified the thick and thin of the nature and taste of the herbs which is suitable for the spirit of the Yin Yang Qi Xue(陰陽氣血) or against the evil. Besides, when the evil spreads over the superficies and inferior and one cannot handle it with the lop-sided prescription like diaphoresis, emetic and purgative therapy. Zhong-Jing proposed to use (小架胡湯-XiaoChaihuTang or Minor decoction of Bupleurum) as mediating recipe so as to recover the regulating function of the Shaoyang Channels(少陽經) and manage the disharmony between superficies and inferior. Through this He lifted the spirit of the Oriental Medicine in pursuit of the balance between Yinyang(陰陽) and the Five phases(正行). Zhong-Jing suggested the most effective and practical way to compose a prescription to the other doctors, the way to select the medicinal herbs proper to the condition of illness, the way to maximize their effect by controlling dosage, parings and the form of the medicine, by showing each prescription and the example of their usages in the Discussion of cold induced Disorders.
