AB - Sasang constitutional medicine (四象醫學) currently became a more popular conception up to the public. Otherwise, a physical constitution is overused as a main term of sasang constitutional medicine (四象醫學) without any perspicuous definition and distinction as far as we concerned about using the same term in various criteria. In other words, the conceptions of a physical constitution are understood differently depending on where those terms come from-the existing oriental medicine sasang constitutional medicine (四象醫學), or eight constitutional medicine because those criteria have their different own standards of classification and construction about different constitution so that it cause diverse diagnoses, cures and prophylatics against constitutional diseases. For this reason, 『young-choo(靈樞)』 and 『so-moon(素問)』 of 『hwang-je-ne-gung(黃帝內經)』 was evaluated as main references to see the conception of physical constitution. And through comparing two representative aspects of theory of physical constitution and constitutional medicine - sasang constitutional medicine(四象醫學), and eight constitutional medicine - the following results was gained. 1. The classification of constitution in 『hwang-je-ne-gung(黃帝內經)』 is drawn by the phenotypical differences, then classified types are like these- bee-go-yok-in(肥膏肉人), bee-soo-in(肥瘦人), o-tae-in(五態人), o-hyung-in(五形人). 2. The constitution in 『hwang-je-ne-gung(黃帝內經)』 is characterized by having reciprocity(天人相應), tendency, and predictability. 4. The constitution in 『hwang-je-ne-gung(黃帝內經)』 is worth as the application of principles from "chee-byung-peel-gooer-bone(治病必求於本)" and "in-in-je-i(因人制宜)" for diagnoses and as a active cures of preventive medicine for "chi-mee-byung(治未病)" by the yang-saeng(養生). 5. The comparison between 『ne-gung(內經)』 and the medicine of constitution suggest 『ne-gung(內經)』 and sasang constitutional medicine (四象醫學) relationship between chac(體) and young(用), the eight constitutional medicine (ga-hwa(自火) and sang-bwa(相火)) are all based on theory of un and yang(陰陽說). As far as the point of view over subjects is concerned, sasang constitutional medicine(四象醫學) focused on sung-jung(性情), 『ne-gung(內經)』 and eight constitutional medicine focused on a human natured by the relationship of chun-in-sang-oung(天人相應). 6. Physical constitutions are classified in 『ne-gung(內經)』 like these- bee-go-yook-in(肥膏肉人)and bee-soo-in(肥瘦人), are assorted with the body shapes, o-hyung-in(五形人) is classification by o-hang(五行). and the major four constitution, te-um-in(太陰人), te-yang-in(太陽人), so-um-in(少陰人), and so-yang-in(少陽人), sorted out by the sized of jang-gook(臟局) developed from ones natures and tempers are subdivided into eight constitutions by the strength of organs. 7. Regarding how to define the stated of the healthiness, um-yang-hwa-pyung-gee-in(陰陽和平之人) is considered a healthy state in 『ne-gung(內經)』, the state of wan-shil-moo-byung(完実無病) in sasang constitutional medicine(四象醫學), and the state between balanced and unbalanced(unbalanced state in the right way)in the eight constitutional medicine.
