ABSTRACT

The National Archives of Korea (NAK) operates long-term preservation policies centered on preservation formats and long-term preservation packages to ensure the long-term preservation and utilization of electronic records. Electronic records with retention periods of 30 years or longer must, under relevant legislation, be converted into long-term preservation packages and managed accordingly. Administrative information datasets are likewise subject to the long-term preservation package framework; however, the current long-term preservation package technical specification (NAK 31-2:2022) includes components designed specifically for document-type records, which limits its applicability to administrative information datasets. This study, therefore, aims to propose ways to expand the long-term preservation package (NEO3) to accommodate administrative information datasets. To this end, the structure of the long-term preservation package and the concept and scope of each component were analyzed, and the scope of the administrative information dataset records to be included in the long-term preservation package was identified. Based on the identified preservation scope, the components of the current long-term preservation package were analyzed, and an improvement plan suitable for administrative information datasets was proposed. This study is significant in that it provides guidance on the use of long-term preservation packages for the long-term preservation of administrative information datasets.
