ABSTRACT

This paper proposes a GPU-based framework for stably exaggerating the shape of triangular meshes using a boost filter. The framework is based on the high-boost mesh filter from digital signal processing, which influences the normal vectors of the triangular mesh and updates the vertex positions to adapt to the exaggerated normal vectors. However, this process introduces noise in the vertices, which previous methods attempted to minimize using an averaging filter. To address this issue, this paper applies a bilateral filter to the high-boost filtering algorithm to remove noise and accelerate the process using a GPU, generating results in an average of 0.0006 to 0.0008 seconds. Through various experiments, the proposed method demonstrates its effectiveness in the shape exaggeration process of 3D meshes.
