ABSTRACT

This study aimed to examine the mediating effect of self-efficacy on the relationship between social support and life satisfaction among parents caring for adult children with developmental disabilities. Data were collected from 300 parents in the Chungbuk region who care for adult children with developmental disabilities through a survey conducted from November 1 to November 30, 2023. Out of the collected data, 200 responses were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 Process Macro 4.2. The results indicated that social support had a statistically significant positive effect on self-efficacy. Furthermore, both social support and self-efficacy significantly positively influenced life satisfaction, confirming that self-efficacy partially mediates the relationship between social support and life satisfaction. The statistical significance of this mediating effect was verified through bootstrapping. Based on these findings, the study suggests practical and policy efforts to support the formation of social support networks for parents of adult children with developmental disabilities, the development of programs to enhance self-efficacy, and educational initiatives aimed at improving life satisfaction.
