ABSTRACT

As the starting point of a full-fledged historical study on amateur radio in Korea, this study deals with the policy on amateur radio conducted by the U.S. Forces Korea Command around the establishment of the government after Korea's liberation. More specifically, this study tried to investigate the amateur radio policy of the U.S. Forces Korea Command, which has not been established in Korea, through a U.S. document held by the U.S. National Archives and Archives (NARA), and on the other hand, under the U.S. military government's policy, what the amateur radio activities of Koreans in Korea were like until the Korean War after liberation. Since then, based on the theoretical perspective of 'the social constructivism of technology', we have tried to clarify the historical significance of the amateur radio policy of the U.S. Forces Korea Command. The amateur radio policy of the U.S. Forces Korea Command was a kind of 'cold taming' policy, which had a significant impact on making the image of a 'secret document' created in the Cold War situation emerge rather than the 'square' imagery on the basis of the institutional form of amateur radio ham.
