AB - This study compares the efficiency of the tourism industry in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China across 12 regions. This study uses the number of travel agencies and hotels as input variables, and the number of tourists and tourism revenue as output variables, to analyze the Malmquist index. The results can be summarized in three points. First, the efficiency of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's tourism industry is improving. This suggests that the future development potential of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's tourism industry is significant. Second, the efficiency of the tourism industry in small and medium-sized cities is relatively higher than in large cities like Huhehaote or Baotou. This suggests that the tourism industry in these small and medium-sized cities holds relatively large potential for future development. Third, the efficiency of the tourism industry, which focuses on domestic tourists, is higher than that of the tourism industry, which focuses on foreign tourists.
