ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to examine the effects of dysfunctional beliefs on happiness and the moderating effect of emotional expressiveness among nursing students. Data collected from 117 nursing students in 2022 were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. The results showed that dysfunctional beliefs, which were not significant in simple correlation analysis, emerged as a significant negative predictor of happiness when emotional expressivity was controlled. This suggests a suppression effect, where emotional expressivity masked the pure negative impact of dysfunctional beliefs on happiness. And it was found that emotional expressiveness did not moderate the relationship between dysfunctional beliefs and happiness. Therefore enhancing the happiness of nursing students requires a parallel approach: cognitive interventions to address dysfunctional beliefs and emotional interventions to encourage active emotional expression.
