ABSTRACT

This study aimed to examine teachers’ experiences and perceptions regarding the use of Generative AI (GAI) in psychological help-seeking. Online survey was conducted to 49 elementary and middle school teachers and interview was performed to 3 teachers to investigate their perceptions of using GAI for psychological help-seeking. The results of the survey indicated that 57% of the participants had experience using GAI for their own mental health, 59% had used it for counseling-related works, and 86% expressed their intention to use it as help-seeking. The major strengths of GAI in psychological help-seeking included high accessibility and low cost, while the limitations included low credibility, privacy breach risk, and limited empathic ability. The interviewees indicated the need for the supports including data security, AI literacy education, and financial support for AI usage fees. These findings suggest the need for policy support to utilize GAI as a mental health support tool in educational settings. Future research involving diverse school levels and regions is needed.
