AB - This study examines the influence of texture pattern scale on players’ spatial scale perception in game environments and explores the educational significance of Formative Judgment in the era of generative AI-assisted game graphics production. Although generative AI has significantly improved the efficiency and visual quality of game asset creation, maintaining proportional consistency and perceptual coherence across an entire game environment remains a critical challenge. In particular, mismatches between texture pattern scale and intended spatial scale can distort players’ perception of space, reducing immersion and environmental credibility. Drawing upon James J. Gibson’s ecological theory of perception, this study analyzes the relationship between texture pattern scale and spatial perception through case studies of game environments and AI-generated assets. The findings indicate that spatial scale perception errors stem not only from technical limitations but also from insufficient understanding of human perceptual principles. Accordingly, game graphics education in the AI era should move beyond technical skill training and focus on cultivating Formative Judgment, an integrated cognitive ability encompassing observation, representation, analysis, and judgment. Drawing education should therefore be reconsidered as a foundation for developing visual judgment rather than merely a means of image production.
