ABSTRACT

This study examines how AI integration relates to organizational agility and operational performance through two intermediate organizational mechanisms (collaboration and process flexibility) within an Input–Process–Output (IPO) framework. Extending the IT-agility perspective to the AI context, we use PLS-SEM to analyze survey data from 231 managers in AI-using firms. AI integration is positively associated with both collaboration and process flexibility, and these two mechanisms are, in turn, positively related to organizational agility, which is further associated with operational performance. Both serial paths are statistically significant; however, the total indirect effect is small (0.037), and its practical magnitude should therefore be interpreted with caution. The findings suggest that agility is not an automatic byproduct of AI adoption but emerges when AI integration is accompanied by a substantive reconfiguration of collaboration patterns and process structures. Rather than claiming strong prediction of performance, the study contributes by identifying the intermediate organizational mechanisms through which AI integration is translated into adaptive capability.
