ABSTRACT

Objectives: To examine the effects of grit, positive psychological capital, and professional self-concept on the motivation of dental hygienists to participate in continuing education, and to provide basic data for developing intervention strategies. Methods: Data were collected through a questionnaire survey administered to 210 dental hygienists via an online link between July 7 and July 30, 2025. Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, one-way analysis of variance with Scheffé’s test, Pearson’s correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Motivation to participate in continuing education differed significantly by age, career experience, and region. There were positive correlations between motivation and grit (r=0.368, p<0.001), positive psychological capital (r=0.517, p<0.001), and professional self-concept (r=0.503, p<0.001). Positive psychological capital was the most significant predictor of motivation (β=0.311, p<0.05). Conclusions: Positive psychological capital was significantly associated with the motivation to participate in continuing education among dental hygienists. Therefore, developing strategies to enhance positive psychological capital may contribute to promoting participation in continuing education.
