AB - 『捷解新語』에 대하여 이해를 행하고자 할 때, 기본적으로 중시하여여 할 것은, 두말 할 나위 없이, 倭学書로서의 성격이 된다고 하겠다. 본고는, 본서에 대한 이해의 일환으로서, 본서가 가지고 있는 倭学書라고 하는 본래의 성격에 초점을 맞추어서, 倭学이라고 하는 현장에서, 본서를 어떠한 식으로 썼는가의 실제 쓰는 방법에 대한 일면을 생각하여 보고자 하는 것인데, 이를 위하여서 본고에서 사용하게 되는 자료는 국립중앙도서관 소장의 『重刊捷解新語』(1781년 간행)가 된다. 여기에서 어떤 인물이 별도로 써놓은 것이 전권에 걸쳐서 나타나고 있는데, 이것은 본서를 쓸 때의 어떤 상황에 관련되어 있는 것이라고 생각되어져, 이것을 구체적으로 살펴봄에 따라서, 실제 쓸 때의 방법에 관계되는 상황의 일단을 어느 정도는 엿볼 수 있게 되지 않을까 생각하여 보는 것이다.
써놓은 것 중에서 張次外数字表示는 字体의 크기에 따라서, 小字와 大字로 나누어 생각하여 볼 수가 있는데, 이 중에서 大字 쪽에서는 이것을 쓴 인물의 의도 내용으로서 大白圓圏単位 行中内容의 시작 부분이 行의 첫머리에 자리 잡고 있는 경우에 표시한다라고 하는 것을 정리하여 볼 수가 있다. 그리고 이 의도 내용을 단서로 하여서 大字 중에서 「五」表示의 상황을 조사하여 보면, 또 하나의 의도로서, 「五」表示는 그 표시행에서 오행째에 大白圓圏単位 行中内容의 끝 부분이 있는 경우를 전제로 하고 있는 것을 확인할 수가 있으며, 이러한 점으로 하여서 大字「五」表示의 경우는 다섯 개의 行으로서의 묶음을 뜻하는 것으로서 이해할 수가 있게 된다. 大字「五」表示 이외의 경우에 대한 정리는 다른 기회로 미루기로 하겠다.
