AB - 본고는 인간관계 안에서 언어사용에 관한 가장 기본적이 요소로서 상하관계를 채택하여 그 상하 관계요소를 중심으로 겸양어의 양상에 대하여 고찰하였다. 연구방법으로서는 여러 인간관계가 등장하는 드라마, 소설의 회화용례에 나타나는 화자와 청자, 화제의 인물 사이의 관계를 중심으로 사회적 관계에서 성립되는 대우행동인 본질에 입각하여, 상관계를「지위의 상하․입장의 상하․ 경험의 상하․연령의 상하․친족의 상하」로 나누어 보았다.
현대 일본어의 경어행동을 보면 다양한 언어상의 배려 위에 이루어지고 있다. 「주위의 인간관계로의 배려」가 현재 경어행동에 강하게 작용되고, 언어주체의 대상에 대한 배려, 화자의 언어주체 자신에 대해서 겸양어로 이루어지는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 현대경어가 배려 표현이라고도 불리고 있는 것은 행위자 측에 시점을 둔 언어사용이며, 언어주체 대
상에대한 배려와, 언어주체 행위자 자신에 대한 겸양표현 이라고 생각할 수 있으며 현대경어 행동은 인간관계의 배려차원을 무엇보다 우선시하여 이와 같은 경어행동에서 겸양어를 사용하는 빈도가 많아지고 있다고 생각한다.
