AB - For a Japanese student, it is one of the inportant study item to learn Japanese foreign words and they often mistake a phonetic transcription and pronunciation. And especially for Korean Japanese student, they don’t have long vowels, so they need to be conscious of especially the pronunciation of a long vowel.
We focus on a long vowel of katakana which is pronounced by Korean Japanese students and how correctly they recognize and pronounce it..
For the result of investigation, it appeared that the lengthening of a long vowel is shown in the end of a word or middle word, and the shortening of a long vowel is highly shown in the beginning of a word. We think that the difference in the phonemic contrast between English and Korean rather than between Japanese and English dominantly leads to the misuse.
We also assume that there is a tendency to pronounce and notate if the same foreign word exists in Korean: changing the vocabulary written in English into Korean. It's hard to conclude whether any special phoneme can't be recognized for students of beginners' level or they can't connect with the correct notation in katakana even though they can recognize the phonemic. However, the pronunciation about the long vowel in the end of a word spoken by the native speaker is ambiguous, so the students may not have known the correct notation even though they can recognize a prolonged sound.
