AB - 본고는 한국과 일본의 초등학교 1-2학년 국어교과서의 ‘어휘분포(Lexical meaning)’의 유의차(有意差)를 통해 양국의 사회상 및 가치관의 차이를 밝히고 가장 유의차가 높게 나타난 의미 범주를, 해당 국어교과서로 학습한 양국의 초등학교 3학년생의 어휘 사용과 비교함으로써 교과서 어휘와의 관련을 살펴보려는데 그 목적이 있다.
한국 교과서에는 개별어에서 일본의 1.33배, 전체어에서 1.49배에 이르는 어휘가 사용되었는데, 양국의 교과서 어휘를『分類語彙表』(1964)에 의해 43개의 항목으로 나누어 살펴본 결과, 개별어에서는 유의차가 거의 발생하지 않아, 양국의 1-2학년 국어교과서는 어휘 분포에 있어 유사함을 알 수 있었다. 전체어에서는 13개 항목에서 유의차가 발생했는데, 한국교과서는 이중 <1.20われ·なれ·かれ><1.25公私><1.52宇宙·空><1.37納得> 등, 6개 항목에서 높고 일본은 <1.56動物><1.55生物><1.17空間·場所> 등, 7개 항목에서 유의차가 높았다. 분석 결과, 한국은 ‘사람, 자신, 타인’, ‘국가와 지역’ 관련 용어가 많이 등장하여, 상대적으로 인물 및 가족, 민족을 소중히 하고 ‘우리’라는 집단의식이 강하며 충효를 소중히 하는 사회상 및 가치관이 강하게 나타나 있음을 알 수 있었고 이를 앙케트를 통해 양국의 학생들의 어휘사용으로부터 연관성을 확인하였다. 또한 한국은 경제관념, 경쟁, 노력과 보상이라는 가치관이 직·간접적으로 나타나 있는 반면, 일본은 그렇지 않았다. 일본은 인물보다는 동·식물과 소재 및 도구를 중시하고, 시간적·공간적 인식을 정확하게 인식시키려는 의도가 엿보이며, 특정 가치보다는 사회 속에서 지켜야할 기본 생활양식을 중요시하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 본고를 통하여 양국 교과서에 나타난 사회상 및 가치관의 차이를 확인하였고, 교과서가 학생들의 어휘사용 및 나아가 가치관 형성에 영향을 미친다는 것을 확인하였다.
