ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to report on the Japanese writing class that used internet and analyze the learner’s answers to the questionnaire. It is called blended learning that uses on-line method in the conventional class. Korea is a leading country in the IT field and classes using the IT method has become increasingly popular in recent years. In this study, learners wrote 7 articles on various topics and left comments on each on the on-line board. The results of this study are as follows: First, it became possible to interact among learners. Through the activity, learners contact Japanese more frequently, and were provided a chance for actual communication using Japanese. Second, it helped process-oriented writing that focuses on contents rather than on forms like grammar items. Learners write and read the essay of each other and canwrite conscious of the readers. Third, it was effective in providing feedback to students. The instructor could check the compositions and get it back to learners promptly. This raised the learning effect. From the results, it is suggested that the writing class could be a communicational process and support collaborative learning.
