AB - The purpose of this paper is to clarify the current state of how role language of characters in Japanese manga is reflected in Korean translation by comparing the original version of Japanese manga which is popular in South Korea, with its Korean translation. The following seven hypotheses were verified from the analysis;(1) On the whole, there is a tendency for the role language of characters in Japanese manga not to be reflected in Korean translation.
(2) There are many role languages which express gender in the original Japanese version.
(3) There is a first personal pronoun to express the generation, gender and era in the original Japanese version. However it is difficult to translate this into Korean because there is no Korean equivalent for it.
(4) The role language to express the personality and era is relatively well reflected in Korean translation.
(5) It is difficult to reflect the role language expressing the job of characters in the original Japanese version through Korean translation.
(6) In the case of English words, short lines are translated in English, and long lines are translated into Korean.
(7) Dialect words of Japanese are translated into the standard Korean.
In this study, it is indefinite that there are differences in the translation of the role language between each of the translators and the mangas.
